My name is Sheza Shafi and this year, I am proud to be a part of the Leukimia & Lymphoma Society Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission. My team and I's goal is to raise as much money as possible over the next 7 weeks starting January 28th to March 18th, in order to help support the organization's goal of cure and enhancing the quality of life of patients and their families. Did you know that LLS has aided in funding over 85% of FDA-approved treatments since 2017? 

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

• Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients

• Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.

• Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.

This cause holds great importance to me and my family. In 2016, my grandma was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma. It was a tough time for not only my grandma but for my family. Seeing her battle through the chemotherapies, countless hospital visits, and scans was truly heartbreaking and left me feeling helpless. LLS allows me to attempt to make the change I never thought I could make. This is my personal reason for participating as a visionary. Do you have a personal connection to the organization? 

Many LLS-supported therapies not only help blood cancer patients but are also now used to treat patients with rare forms of stomach and skin cancers and are in clinical trials for patients with lung, brain, breast, pancreatic and prostate cancers. And LLS-funded drugs like targeted therapies and immunotherapies are now saving thousands of lives every day. 

We really are getting close to our goal of a world without blood cancers! All donations are greatly appreciated and tax-deductible. They'll not only support LLS research, but patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services as well.
